Paint the Train Artistic competition started in 2018 as a partnership between the Arts Council of Surrey and the FVHRS  to bring artists together to celebrate Railway history in the Surrey area. Initially focusing on the heritage of the B.C. Electric Railway the scope has expanded over time.

Disruptions in life in 2020 (that COVID thing) meant we skipped that year, however we welcomed the Langley Arts Council to the party in 2021 to embrace more of the region as we also increased the scope of the subject topics. For 2023 and our fifth offering of Paint the Train, we welcome the Arts Council of New Westminster  to the team.  The scope now includes all rail based transportation since 1886 that has a direct connection to the Lower Mainland and the Fraser Valley.
