This time of enforced isolation does not mean we need to ignore some of the personal events.
The Railway Players knew of a ‘secret’ – an event that someone was looking to keep quiet. Well not anymore.
Monday May 4th, 2020 is a special event for the FVHRS founder and driving force behind all that is the Fraser Valley Heritage Railway. This day marks the anniversary of the birth of Allen Aubert only “Seventy years and ten years of experience” ago.
With the social distancing regulations this was more of a ‘drive-by’ party on the grey day, at least is was not raining.
While demonstrating some new video technology to Allen on his driveway we were interrupted with a small parade of balloon bedecked cars and members of the FVHRS Railway Players dressed up in various period costumes.
Allen was completely surprised. This one of the first times we have all heard him say “I am speechless!”
The celebration, or neighbourhood noise, attracted the neighbour, Dave, who came out to also wish Allen a Happy Birthday. He did decline the invitation to join the party but at least he now knew what the racked was about.
Allen was presented with a bag of cards and presents, and then he took delight in showing off his Birthday Socks from Palm Springs.
Then birthday cup-cake was enjoyed by all.
The bag of goodies included a special bottle of the latest wine from Abbotsford with the Interurban label.
Another gift was also delivered in a social distancing fashion.
Mickey (Grace) was handing out the disinfectant wipes after the cupcakes.
The group all stood for a “new Normal” group air-hug.
We also found out that today was also Minnies (Barb) birthday although not as significant a number.
Happy Birthday Allen and Barb! May you all enjoy many more and much closer to loved ones.
