Interurban car BCER 1231 was in storage for nine years in the Downtown Heritage Railway Vancouver carbarn, after nine years of services on that line.
The car was donated to Fraser Valley Heritage Railway Society (FVHRS) by BC Transit; 1231 arrived at our Cloverdale facility on November 9th, 2017.
20 years after incorporation, FVHRS stands firmly as “B.C. Electric central”, with our splendid roster of four interurban cars: BCER 1207, BCER 1225, BCER 1231 and BCER 1304.

Built in 1913, Car 1231 – a sister of Car 1225 – operated until B.C. Electric’s last day of interurban service, and was the very last interurban on B.C. Electric’s tracks on February 28, 1958.

The Restoration of Car 1231
Dedicated, talented and energetic volunteers who rehabilitated BCER 1225 and 1304 are working currently on Car 1231, and look forward to dealing similarly with Car 1207.
Rehabilitation on Car 1231 was completed in 2024. This included restoration of the seats and interior woodwork, the electrical system, four electric motors, wheels and bearings. The car was raised, with the help of Nickel Brothers, to allow removal of trucks and motors for reconditioning.
The car was inspected by the relevant authorities and permission to run the car was granted. It is now use regularly on Saturday’s Heritage Rail Adventures.

The first step in testing BCER interurbans 1225 and 1231 in a two-car consist is to couple them together. Today, that coupling occurred with Terry Nichols leading this step.
Tickets are now on sale for our 2026 season! Opening weekend is May 2nd and 3rd and closing weekend is September 26th and 27th.

Tickets for our 2026 season go on sale on April 1st! Our season opens on Saturday, May 2nd with the Heritage Rail Adventure, the "ride everything" concept, perfect for families. Sunday, May 3rd resumes our Sullivan Excursion, featuring a ride on a 1912 BC Electric interurban travelling on original BC Electric tracks!

Shake the snow globe and travel back in time with the Electric Express to 1921. See the characters, hear the Christmas music, experience the stories of the Fraser Valley one hundred years ago.
Feel the magic of Christmas as we visit Father Christmas in his secret workshop. You will want to bring your whole family to enjoy our theatrical event that is sure to warm your heart and make you laugh.
This is a heritage railway theatrical experience that takes place on the train run on our 1/2-mile section of our track, with a destination visit to the secret workshop of Father Christmas. Please note the train does not run to Sullivan Station, it travels a short distance up our spur line and back to Father Christmas’s Secret Workshop. The Electric Express experience is approximately 50 minutes long.
This experience will set the scene for the start of a wonderful Christmas season.

It’s really happening! We really are finally back on TRACK!
Rides on Surrey’s Heritage Rail will start on Saturday, September 4! We will run every Saturday until October 9. The 1225 Interurban will run four trips each Saturday from Cloverdale Station to Sullivan Station and back. This is approximately a 50-minute ride. In addition, you can also ride the Speeder on our Spur line.
We will also be hosting special Halloween Rides from Cloverdale Station to Sullivan Station on Saturday October 16 and Sunday October 17. More information to follow, watch this space!
This is a fun family experience! Bring the kids, and bring Grandma and Grandpa too, they may have stories from when they rode the rails. Experience Surrey’s 110-year-old heritage rail history!

Despite our best efforts the Fraser Valley Heritage Railway will not be able to run this August. We are cancelling all August runs due to circumstances beyond our control. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause you. August will see us concentrating our efforts on training and re-certifying volunteers.
BUT! Watch this space for BIG NEWS coming next week. We hope to confirm the restart for September 2021. In addition to Saturday runs from !!!Cloverdale to Sullivan!!! we have a Spooktacular special event in the works! Like our page to keep up to date with all things FVHRS!
