General Information

What are your two main experiences?

We offer the Heritage Rail Adventure (Saturdays) and the Sullivan Excursion (Sundays). The Heritage Rail Adventure is a multi-activity experience including train rides, interactive exhibits, and hands-on activities at our Discovery Centre. The Sullivan Excursion is a scenic 55-minute round-trip journey through Fraser Valley farmlands to Sullivan Park.

How long are the experiences?

The Heritage Rail Adventure is approximately 60 minutes. The Sullivan Excursion is approximately 55 minutes.

When do you operate?

We operate seasonally to the public, May through September. The Heritage Rail Adventure runs exclusively on Saturdays; the Sullivan Excursion runs exclusively on Sundays. Both offer four daily departures: 10:00 AM, 11:30 AM, 1:30 PM, and 3:00 PM.

Where do the experiences start?

Both experiences start at the historic Cloverdale Station, located at Highway 10 and 176A Street in Cloverdale, Surrey, BC.

Tickets & Reservations

Do I need a reservation?

While advance ticket purchases are recommended, tickets can also be purchased at the station. Please note that all tickets are sold based on available seating – if you have a ticket, you are guaranteed a seat. Station tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Is there a minimum or maximum age to participate?

No age restrictions for most activities. Children 2 and under are free. For the Velocipede activity (Heritage Rail Adventure only), children must be 4’6″ tall to operate it, though younger children can ride as passengers.

Do you offer discounts?

Yes, Seniors 65+ are offered a discounted rate, as well as Students (12-18) and Children (3-11). Children 2 and under are free.

What is your cancellation policy?

Customers will receive a full refund or credit with 24 hour’s notice of cancellation. Customers will also receive a full refund or credit in case of operator cancellation due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances. Contact us by phone to cancel or inquire about a cancellation. No-shows will be charged the full price.

Can I purchase gift certificates?

Accessibility & Special Needs

Is your facility wheelchair accessible?

The station and Interurban are accessible for those with disabilities. Wheelchair passengers must be able to transfer to our transit wheelchair to pass through the Interurban’s narrow doorways. All wheelchair passengers must be able to transfer to the fixed seating on the Interurban. The Honeybee Express is accessible. Accessible washrooms are available at the station, and the Discovery Centre.

Do you allow service animals?

Yes, service animals are welcome. Pets are not permitted for the safety and comfort of all guests.

What to Expect

Are there washrooms available?

Yes, restroom facilities are available at Cloverdale Station and in the Discovery Centre car barn while on the Heritage Rail Adventure. There are no washrooms on the Interurban trains.

What should I wear?

Some Heritage Rail Adventure activities are outdoors, and you will be walking around a working rail yard, so please wear closed-toe footwear and watch your step. The Sullivan Excursion is covered, and you will enter and exit at Cloverdale Station.

Is smoking permitted?

No, all FVHRS facilities and Interurban trains are non-smoking, including vaping.

What about weather conditions?

Our experiences operate in most weather conditions. The Heritage Rail Adventure includes both indoor and outdoor activities. The Sullivan Excursion takes place in covered, historic railcars. In case of severe weather, we will contact ticket holders about any changes.

Can I bring food or drinks?

Food and drinks (except for water bottles) are not allowed on the Heritage Rail Adventure, nor the Sullivan Excursion. You are welcome to bring a picnic and enjoy it before or after your adventure at one of our picnic tables at the station.

Heritage Rail Adventure (Saturdays)

What activities are included in the Heritage Rail Adventure?

Your ticket includes: A 10-minute ride on a restored B.C. Electric Interurban Railcar, Discovery Centre with educational film and interactive exhibits, Honey Bee Express ride, Family Quad Car, Velocipede experience with souvenir button, historical artifact viewing, and visits to Bill’s Corner Store.

Do I need to book specific activity times?

No, once you have a Heritage Rail Adventure ticket, every activity is included as part of a guided tour.

What is the Velocipede?

The Velocipede is a rare, one-person self-propelled maintenance vehicle, designed for use on a rail track. Guests who ride it earn a special “I Rode the Velocipede” button. Children must be 4’6″ tall to operate it.

The Sullivan Excursion (Sundays)

What does the journey include?

Your 55-minute round-trip includes travel through Fraser Valley farmlands, crossing Highway 10 and the Serpentine River, wildlife viewing opportunities, and guided commentary about regional rail history from our Passenger Attendant.

What wildlife might we see?

Guests may spot hawks, bald eagles, and families of coyotes along the route.

Which train car will we ride?

The Sullivan Excursion currently runs BCER 1225, our flagship Interurban. BCER 1225 worked in Vancouver, Steveston and Burnaby from 1913 until February 28, 1958. To learn more about Car 1225, click here.

Do we get off the train during our journey?

No, passengers do not exit the train once we reach Sullivan Park.

Groups & Special Events

Do you offer group rates?

Yes, we offer special rates for larger groups and corporate events, etc. Please visit our Tours page for more information.

Can you accommodate school groups?

Absolutely! Our Heritage Rail Adventure is particularly educational for school groups. Please visit our Tours page for more information.

Do you host special events?

Yes, we host seasonal special events like our Monster Express (Halloween) and Electric Express (Christmas). Follow our Calendar of Events and social media for announcements.

Getting Here

Where is Cloverdale Station located?

Cloverdale Station is located at Highway 10 and 176A Street in Cloverdale, Surrey, BC.

How do I get driving directions?

You can get directions from whichever area you’re coming to us from by clicking this Google maps link.

Where should I park?

Passenger parking is available at the East side (the HWY 10 side) of the Cloverdale Station. Please do not park in the Clydesdale Inn or Country Diner parking lots adjacent to the station.

How early should I arrive?

We recommend arriving 15-30 minutes before your scheduled departure time to allow ample time for parking, using the washroom, and to visit the station museum room.

What if I’m running late?

Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate any late arrivals. We stick to a strict departure time for all events to accommodate every guest and ensure each following event starts on time.

The time listed on your ticket is your event departure time. Trains start boarding 10 minutes prior to the departure time. Visitors arriving after the train is loaded will not be able to board.

Yes, Fraser Valley Heritage Railway Society is a registered non-profit organization operated entirely by volunteers.

How can I get involved?

There are many ways to support FVHRS! There are many Volunteer opportunities available, including operations, customer service, maintenance, special events, or administration – no engineering experience required. We also offer various Membership opportunities and an Ambassador Program.
