Volunteer Fair March 11 & 12

Volunteer Fair Sat. March 11 & Sunday March 12. 10am to 3pm.

Cloverdale Station, Hwy #10 (56 Ave) & 176A St, Surrey.

Want to find out how to run a tram? Enjoy meeting people? Want to peek behind the scenes?

Come out to our annual Volunteer Fair to see what goes on in the station, the car barn and on the tram. No need to have experience with the railway, we provide training and coaching. Flexible on timing, evening training sessions or weekends.

Your commitment? We ask for at least a half day per month. The main operating season is weekends (Sat & Sun only, no stat holidays) from May through to the end of September. There are also opportunities for restoration, maintenance and planning during the year (Tues, Wed, Thur 9-2) in the car barn.

A great group to spend time with, our youngest volunteer is 11, the senior volunteer is in (upper) eighties.

See our Volunteer page for more info. or call 604 574 9056.

Heritage BC Award

Heritage BC is a charitable not-for-profit supporting heritage conservation across British Columbia through education, training and skills development, capacity building in heritage planning and funding through the Heritage Legacy Fund.

As part of their work in BC they have an annual Awards Gala, the 2017 event was held on Feb. 15th in the restored Heritage Hall in Vancouver. The FVHRS was honoured with an award for Heritage Education and Awareness.

Judy Oberlander presented the awards and quoted from the nomination:
“The Fraser Valley Heritage Railway Society is a volunteer organization which restores and operates original B.C. Electric Railway trams on the original B.C. Electric Railway line between the communities of Cloverdale and Sullivan in Surrey. Operating between spring and Thanksgiving, “Surrey’s Heritage Rail” transported over 20,000 passengers.

The main headquarters of the Society is in a replica “Cloverdale Station” located across the street from the Surrey Museum and the Surrey Archives, and just blocks from the BC Vintage Truck Museum. These four organizations work in partnership to support heritage education and awareness in the area.

Through the tram service and the Cloverdale Station, the Society provides excellent heritage learning experiences that help riders better appreciate and understand public transportation.

Today, the Cloverdale Station and its thousands of riders contribute to the economy and vibrancy of Historic Cloverdale and the community in general.”

I was very pleased to accept this award on behalf of the volunteers, members and partners of the FVHRS. We are starting to be noticed.

John Sprung, Chair.
